Rescue Me ID: 15-10-16-00131Apollo (male)

Alaskan Malamute    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Go Big or Go Home!!!! If that's your motto, then Apollo the Great is your man. Apollo is a 2 year old Alaskan Malamute and some might describe him as lacking in manners (which we are working on) but we prefer to think of him as a true malamute, exuberant and fun loving. Being a true mal, there are some growls but they are easily corrected and keep in mind, he still is a puppy. Apollo has fit in perfectly with our other two mals and the queen of our household, Ms Gidget, 6lb yorkie. We are working on commands, such as sit, down and leave it but he is a work in progress and doing great. When on command, he sometimes forgets and becomes the ... (Read More)cutest pogo stick, once reminded he is easily directed. Apollo is very much a people pup, loves his humans and wants to please. All this 90lb love bug wants is to cozy up on your lap and have endless belly rubs. Apollo is crate trained, with little or no problems. Whoever adopts this 'MUSH' pup, will be getting a lifelong beautiful companion. Apollo came to us via a shelter in Kentucky because of a bite case. He was being harassed by a neighbor through his chain link fence with a stick and the man got a bit too close and Apollo defended himself. We decided to try Apollo in foster care to see if this was a behavioral issue or special circumstances. Apollo was also Heartworm positive when he came to us, so he will need a follow up heartworm test at 6 mo and 1yr post treatment. He is neutered, UTD, dewormed, microchipped and on prevent. As a precautionary measure will be requiring that Apollo go to a home with children 10yrs or older, no cats, and Apollo does better with dogs that are on more laid back side and not pushy or dominant. We will also be requiring Apollo go through an obedience/behavior course with the new owners with a trainer that is familiar with the breed and works on Pos Reinforcement training. Apollo is a wonderful boy, but in true Moot fashion he needs a confident owner but not one who rules by force. Malamute experience will be a MUST as he is not ideal for a first time Moot owner. He is located in Dayton OH area and you will be required to meet him and his foster family prior to adoption. We want to set Apollo up for success. Application, Home visit, and contract apply $300 adoption fee. Application: (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-10-08-00050Beauty (female)

Alaskan Malamute Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Beauty is a 3 year old, female, pure bred Alaskan Malamute. Beauty is the absolute sweetest girl. She is a little backward at first, but once she gets to know you, she is full of love and kisses. Beauty is just that, beautiful, both on the outside and the inside, and would make a great addition. She has been spayed and is current on shots, including rabies. Unfortunately, Beauty tested positive for heartworm. She has been treated with two injections of Immiticide, with no damage to her heart. She will need to be retested for heartworms in 4 to 6 months. Beauty, along with two brothers and a sister, were owner surrenders from a breeder in ... (Read More)Tennessee, who at one time had upwards of 60 Malamutes. All of her siblings have been adopted, and now Beauty is hoping for a home to call her own. Coming from an environment, Beauty's growth was severely stunted at about half the size of a normal malamute. She would also do better in a home with only 1-2 other dogs. As malamute are not always the best with children, we also require a home with children over the age of 12. She is currently in our prison program where they teach the rescues house, crate, and leash training as well as their basic commands. If interested, please contact us for an application. Our rescue does not go by a first come, first serve basis. We process the applications that come in, and choose the best home for each dog. However, we also do not hold dogs. They are ready to be adopted now. After a dog is adopted, we can then rescue another dog in need. Thank you for choosing a rescue dog. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting an Alaskan Malamute in Ohio
Alaskan Malamute Dogs can make good pets in Ohio if they match your IifestyIe. The Alaskan Malamute is an extremely friendly, large breed. Alaskan Malamutes are wonderful with older children. Alaskan Malamutes like to roam outside and need a large yard or acreage. Fences should be high with a buried base, since Alaskan Malamutes like to dig and can get out easily. The Alaskan Malamute is rowdy as a puppy but calms down as an adult dog. Human companionship is important as Alaskan Malamutes can get into trouble and ruin property if not given enough attention. Alaskan Malamutes need to be socialized with children and other dogs at an early age. Alaskan Malamutes, especially males, can be very dominant and may fight with other dogs if not exposed to them when young.
